Ravenclaw Scarf & Headband

Finally, I can update again! My Macbook has been out of commission for a couple weeks due to a fried battery from a faulty charger I bought online. Now we’re all fixed up and ready to blog. I completed quite a few little projects in the downtime, and here’s the first of what I have to share.

My best friend and fellow Harry Potter buff and I got together for our Christmas gift exchange just a few weeks past Christmas. Since I’m terrible at finding exactly what I want to give someone in a store, I like to include as many DIY touches as I can. These were the two I included for her – Ravenclaw colored matching scarf and headband set. She is the epitomy of Ravenclaw house, and although I often like to say my preference is Slytherin, in reality I’d be sorted into Ravenclaw just like her. It’s sad to say that Harry Potter has truly come to an end…no more books…no more movies. To us, it is an end to our childhood. We started reading the series when we were around ten years old, and we grew up with Harry. When a new book would come out, our group of friends would race to see who would finish first. Of course once the new book was finished, we’d have to wait for another one to be published, so we’d go back and re-read the entire series from start to finish in the meantime. Still today my friends and I still reference Harry Potter in just about every conversation, Mister and I made our own wands, and I even got to experience Hogwarts at the Harry Potter park at Universal. I’m not afraid to share my Harry Potter fandom with people, and I still wear a little Slytherin pride (even to work…My boss says she was head of Slytherin house in a previous life -lol-) Even as a “grown up”, I still go back to those books for a taste of the magic.

Anyway, as for the scarf and headband…I’ll provide you a few links. There’s nothing too complicated with the scarf, as it is purely double crochet from start to finish. However, as usual I have a youtube video to share. This is yet another one from mikeyssmail, and it teaches you how to change yarn color in your project without tying a knot (something my previous striped scarves are riddled with). You can check out that video here. As for the headband, you’ve seen me make these several times. I just adore the flower headbands! For the necessary links to make one, refer to one of my previous blog entries – Easy Crochet Headband with Flower.

I’ve also just realized that I’ve officially blogged for over a year! WOOHOO! πŸ™‚
I somehow didn’t expect myself to really stick with it this long, but it has been rather comforting to keep a chronicle of my favorite crafty projects I’ve completed and other fun experiences. I just want to say thank you to anyone who has ever read, commented on, or followed Creative Chronicle. It really does keep me posting when I see that other people are reading what I share. I hope to see many more of you over the next year. Thank you so so much, and remember…

It’s Magic! (Harry Potter style)

Standard

Nothing could be more fun than absolutely geeking out with my love. A few weeks ago, Mister and I were sitting at the kitchen table with a little more than a pound of oven bake clay before us waiting to be formed into nifty creations. It was Mister who had the idea first – in honor of our geeky obsession with Harry Potter, we were going to craft some wands!

Mister ended up crafting two wands, the one with the serpent wrapped around the top and the claw holding the orb. He also made that adorable little rose for me. Mine of course was decorated with mushrooms and a vine wrapping around it.

As soon as they finished baking, we set to painting them. I liked a darker wood color to set off the very nature-like decorations atop my wand.

Mister opted for lighter wood tones, and I especially like the way his claw wand turned out.

Once the paint had dried, we were casting spells all around the kitchen (of course we followed the proper directions for a duel…and only a few Unforgivable Curses were cast). It was a giddy fun time being dorks, but the fun didn’t end there. We also created a few other clay creations.
